I chose Ning as my social networking site due to its educational link...only reason I am not very fond of these social sites due to the fact that they take up too much time, time that I don't have or really want to have. In the future, perhaps I'll participate on some level, if it meets a good purpose? Many of my friends have tried to convince me to get on Facebook. I'm not convinced at all...I enjoy the face to face communication and truly don't want to spend my free time in this way..not beneficial enough!
I do like the way NHS library is using Facebook this summer....this is great and quite appropriate! It is a way to reach students..they are so tuned in. If anyone has suggestions as to how social networking sites can reach students in other ways..I'll listen!
I have become hooked on FaceBook, and to tell you the truth, I am finding that I really need to pull back a bit. It can consume you -- and I agree with you, I enjoy the face to face and I don't want to be spending all of my time in a virtual gab session! My junior prom committee made a facebook event page and sent out meeting notices and even set up a page so that girls could share what dress they were wearing so as to avoid duplication --
